For the second year in a row, Ventana Research has selected Vitria Technology, Inc. as its
Operational Intelligence Leadership Award Winner. The award is reserved for companies that exemplify the discipline of “Applying Operational Intelligence to leverage business and technology events, improve operational responsiveness, and drive action.”
Vitria, together with its partner MID Business, pioneered a new way of delivering services to remote customers via mobile technology and social media. Vitria’s M3O Operational Intelligence Suite continuously monitors social media networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, for customer activity and comments, and analyzes sentiment and trends. MID Business added multi-language semantic analysis. The resulting solution, called “FLUID”, instantly presents call center operators with all customer touch points and social commentary in a single, live dashboard and accomplished the following objectives:
- Empowered remote customers to submit and track new orders via the communication channel and language of their choice.
- Improved customer experience by monitoring and correlating (in real time) all customer communication channels, including email, live chat, instant messaging, SMS text messaging, and social media.
- Improved operational performance with the real-time business activity monitoring and tracking of order fulfillment.
Requirements placed on MID Business by its telecommunications and energy partners included fast deployment time and ease-of-use in a single, cost-effective solution. The entire solution was modeled, tested, and deployed in 150 days. Call center productivity doubled while call center costs were reduced by 40% percent.

On Wednesday, September 21, 2011, Gartner, Inc. VP Distinguished Analyst W. Roy Schulte published his latest case study on real-time Operational Intelligence (OI) systems. This research explains how real-time OI is used to improve the customer experience for complex end-to-end business processes in a virtual enterprise. Schulte explains how IT leaders, business leaders, and business analysts must understand best practices to minimize their risk and achieve rapid results.
Key Findings from the Research
"End-to-end Operational Intelligence reveals problems that cannot be detected by silo management reports and monitoring systems that track only individual applications. Operational Intelligence does not require a workflow or process orchestration tool to actively drive the end-to-end process. The event data required for end-to-end monitoring can be captured from database management systems or other aspects of the business application. Significant business events typically occur when a transaction crosses from one application to another, from one company to another, or when a person finishes work on a task. In most cases, business leaders do not need or want to see minute details on the minor events that happen within application systems."

- Log Console: Enables developers to easily view application logs, which are often needed during development. Developers do not need to look for this in the file system.
